by R. Johnson. Midd Conn. These markings are all on the lockplate. On top of the bbl is another US marking and then "N W P" and also a smaller "P" and on the side a small "H" which I assume to be the US inspector. A couple of cartouches on the left hand side. They are quite faint but still visible. Appears to have been cleaned somewhere in its lifetime because all the metal is a silver/grey. All parts appear to be original. Cal is approximately .56. On closer examination I found a piece of wadded up paper in the bore. The N W P was for the US inspector, Nahum W. Patch. This is an interesting tidbit that will go with the gun. Very cool toggle reversible ramrod. Action is as tight as the day it was made. Very nice flintlock pistol! e

Pistol is mounted inside a purse. The gun is pictured on page 159 of the book "Firearms Curiosa" by Lewis Winant. This is a very interesting item. It is truly a coin purse. One side opens by a lever and inside is a small pin fire 5-shot revolver. Only the muzzle is visible at the end of the purse. Purse measures 2-1/2 by 3-1/2". It has a brass frame design. On one side of the purse is the original velour lining and the other side is missing the lining with only the inside brass coin purse visible.
